Andhra Pradesh Braces for Scorching Temperatures as SDMA Issues Severe Heatwave Alerts Across Multiple Districts
Andhra Pradesh faces a severe heatwave crisis as the SDMA issues urgent alerts for 85 mandals. With temperatures soaring to 45.1 degrees Celsius in Nandyal and extreme heat reported in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, and Rayalaseema, Managing Director Prakhar Jain urges strict safety precautions and hydration to combat the life-threatening weather conditions across the state.
The administrative body highlighted the extreme nature of the current weather pattern, noting that maximum temperatures between 43 degrees Celsius and 44.5 degrees Celsius are anticipated in Parvathipuram Manyam, Palnadu, Prakasam, Markapuram, Nellore, and the Rayalaseema regions. Mandals under the 55-mandal heatwave advisory include those within Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Manyam, Polavaram, Anakapalli, Kakinada, East Godavari, Eluru, NTR, Palnadu, Markapuram, Nandyal, and Sri Sathya Sai.
Data released by the SDMA underscored the intensity of the previous day’s weather, revealing that Sanjamala in Nandyal district recorded a peak temperature of 45.1 degrees Celsius on Thursday. Temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius were documented in 215 mandals across the state. Significant readings included 44.9 degrees Celsius in Ontimitta in Kadapa district, 44.2 degrees Celsius in Anumalapalli in Markapuram district, 43.5 degrees Celsius in Mudigubba in Sri Sathya Sai district, and 43.4 degrees Celsius in both Terannapalli in Anantapur district and Varadayyapalem in Tirupati district.
Further local data showed temperatures reached 43.2 degrees Celsius at Bastipadu in Kurnool district, 42.1 degrees Celsius at Nooliveedu in Annamayya district and Gurajala in Palnadu district, and 42 degrees Celsius at Kommipadu in Nellore district. Looking ahead to Saturday, the SDMA forecasts continued distress with severe heatwave conditions likely in three mandals and heatwave conditions in 28 mandals. The SDMA has advised the public to adopt rigorous precautions, specifically urging citizens to avoid prolonged heat exposure and maintain hydration through the consumption of water, lemon water, buttermilk, and coconut water to mitigate the impact of this significant climatic event.
